Dear World,
Do you feel like you know it all? Do you think you're better than everybody else? Do you think that by reading those articles your friends share on Facebook you are now all knowing and therefore it is your mission to educate everybody else, because they must all be idiots? Yes you are, and it's hard to be this way. It's infuriating when your friends start spouting information that contradicts what you know, because you are of course infallible and they are all so wrong. Or what about when they seem to be reiterating what you already know, because you are afraid they wouldn't know that, hey, you read that article too! You know how to read! You're not stupid! Well, I have a solution for you. Because I, too, am a know it all.
It's called Lead by examples. Look, nobody cares that you're soooo smart. Because they will always think they're smarter, and therefore your intelligence is irrelevant. The only way to make people care is by being smarter than they. Being, not acting. You know the stereotypical image of a Zen master who just sits peacefully in a lotus position with a smug smile on his face? BE THAT! Keep your mouth shut and just smile. You will radiate wisdom impossible to miss. People will come to you from miles and miles away and ask you to share with them your knowledge. People will bow down to you and worship you. Wouldn't that be swell? So, no more doling out unsolicited advice. Refrain from giving spontaneous lectures or starting discussions or arguments just for the sake of proving yourself better or smarter than your peers. No matter how hard it is to keep to yourself how cruel and environmentally destructive the meat industry is, how gluten will destroy the world, or how the universe will one day be wiped out by refined sugar, KEEP IT IN. I promise people will think better of you.
You're welcome,
Savira.
